On the first night of Rosh Hashana (some say, both nights) there’s a custom to eat food with symbolic significance - Simanim - that point the way towards what we hope to see in the world and in ourselves in the year to come. This PDF gift includes a traditional starter set of simanim from Ashnazi and Sephardi customs. In additional to this traditional lineup, the second side gives detailed suggestions for innovating our own DIY simanim - food or objects gathered or created prior to Rosh Hashana - that symbolize our personal prayers and aspirations. When these are shared at the festive table, personal and communal prayers and blessings echo and intertwine and give each other strength.
