Sun and Moon, Together
Sun and Moon, Together
A publication celebrating the spiritual significance of a total solar eclipse from a Jewish lens. Beautifully printed in Berkeley, California, the book tells the story of the key cosmic relationship of the sun and moon through a variety of approaches.
An essay by Nehemia Polen explores the astronomy involved which then becomes a springboard for examining the moon in the Jewish imagination, in particular in the Rabbinic tradition. An illustrated poem by Adina Polen is a retelling of a story from the Talmud about the creation of the sun and moon and is meant for children and adults to share. Finally, a selection of family centered discussion questions and activities are included for further exploration.
A book to share with a Rosh Chodesh group or within a family, or savor on a long shabbat afternoon.
